Privacy Policy
Windrel (“Windrel”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is operated by Urukai (ABN 77 870 013 249). This policy explains what personal information we collect through windrel.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, contact us at info@windrel.com.
Information we collect
- Account holder (parent/guardian). When you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from your Google account. We don’t receive or store your Google password.
- Child profiles. When you add a child to your account, you provide their first name (or a preferred display name) and year level. We generate a username and PIN for them to sign in with; the PIN is stored using salted cryptographic hashing, and nobody at Windrel can see it in plain text.
- Learning activity. Lessons viewed and completed, diagnostic and quiz results, XP earned, and the approximate time spent per lesson, so we can personalise what’s shown next and (if you choose) send you a monthly summary.
- Billing information. Subscription payments are handled by Stripe. Windrel never sees or stores your card number.
- Technical data. Standard web request data (such as IP address and browser type) processed by our hosting provider to serve the site, and a single session cookie used to keep you signed in. We don’t use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.
How we use it
We use this information to run the service: matching lesson content to a child’s year and level, saving progress between sessions, sending the optional monthly activity email to the account holder, processing your subscription, and responding to support requests. We do not use children’s information for advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles of any kind.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run Windrel, each of whom only processes data on our behalf, under contract, to provide their part of the service:
- Google — for account sign-in only.
- Stripe — for subscription payment processing.
- Microsoft Azure — generates lesson content and read-aloud narration, and stores related files. Hosted in the Australia East region.
- Cloudflare — hosts the website and the database that stores account and progress information, in the Oceania region.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing purposes.
Children’s privacy
Windrel is designed for children to use under a parent or guardian’s account. Only an adult (18 or over) can create a Windrel account and add a child profile, and by doing so confirms they have the authority to consent to this policy on that child’s behalf. If you’re a parent or guardian and want to review, correct, or delete your child’s information at any time, contact us at info@windrel.com — there’s no need to explain why.
How long we keep it
We keep account and learning information for as long as your account is active. If you close your account, we delete your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we’re required to retain certain records (for example, billing records for tax purposes).
Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct, delete, or export your (or your child’s) information at any time by emailing info@windrel.com. If you’re not satisfied with how we’ve handled a request, you can also make a complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Security
Traffic to Windrel is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Child PINs are stored using salted cryptographic hashing rather than plain text. Access to personal information is limited to what’s needed to operate the service.
Where your data is processed
Most Windrel data is stored and processed in Australia — our database runs in Cloudflare’s Oceania region, and lesson generation runs through Microsoft Azure’s Australia East region. Sign-in (Google) and payment processing (Stripe) are global services that may process data outside Australia as part of providing those services.
Changes to this policy
If we make changes, we’ll update the “last updated” date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Windrel after a change means you accept the updated policy.
